Nurse-recommended toenail care products, kits, and tips for healthy feet between professional visits
Maintaining healthy toenails between professional visits is important. As a Registered Nurse, Jamie Giles recommends looking for specific ingredients and product types that are safe, effective, and clinically appropriate — especially for seniors and diabetic clients.
A quality toe nail care kit should include properly sized nail clippers (straight-edged, not curved), a nail file, a cuticle pusher, and a nail brush. Avoid kits with very sharp implements if you have reduced sensation in your feet.
Diabetic clients should use fragrance-free, alcohol-free moisturizers and avoid products with harsh chemicals. Always inspect feet carefully and consult your nurse or physician about any changes.
